Butterfly Cabinet & Collection
Very Good

This wonderful collection of butterflies is housed in an exquisite cabinet that is originally from the museum of natural history in San Francisco! Built over the past decade by an accomplished architect residing in San Francisco, this collection contains over 2,000 individual butterflies and beetles. Have a look through the drawers full of rare morphos, papillios, goliath beetles and rare birdwing examples rarely available on the market! This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to acquire a cabinet already populated with a beautiful collection of Lepidoptera and insects, all ready to go! We can conservatively value the insects in this collection along to be valued at over $40,000, but this offer includes the 19th Collector's cabinet too! An incredible opportunity.

More about the cabinet: This stunning collector's cabinet was acquired from the San Francisco Museum of Natural History about 12 years ago when the museum closed for rebuilding and they were deaquisitioning some of their holdings. The cabinet was constructed during the 1890's and was one of the few items to survives the great 1906 Earthquake and fire which ravaged San Francisco. The cabinet is made of oak and contains 48 drawers with mahogany faces and polished nickel mounts and glass lids. A fair market value for the cabinet is somewhere around $15,000. It measures 77"Hx53"Wx27"D including the crown.
